How the Design Process Works: From Ideation to Delivery

Design is all around us. It's in the products we use, the clothes we wear, and the way we live our lives. Good design can make our lives easier and more enjoyable, while bad design can be a source of frustration. So how does good design come to be? In this blog post, we will explore the Ben Heath interior design process from start to finish!

The Interior Design Process

The design process can be broken down into a few main steps: survey, ideation, concept development, refinement, and delivery.

Site Survey

A site survey allows our team to get an exact feel for the space that we will be designing. We take into account the size of the area, the rest of your home and the function of each room before we move ideation.

Ideation

Ideation is the first step in the design process. This is when designers come up with initial ideas for a project once they have spoken with you about your perfect interiors. They might brainstorm alone or with a team, and they might use sketching, mind mapping or mock-up techniques. The goal is to come up with as many ideas as possible during this stage.

Concept Development

Concept development is the second stage of the design process. This is when designers take their initial ideas and start to develop them into more concrete concepts. They might create mood boards, sketches or prototypes at this stage to help communicate their ideas to you - so you can then get a tangible feel around the interior design elements that are available to you.

Refinement

Refinement is the third stage of the design process. This is when designers fine-tune their concepts, taking into account your feedback, to create a final design. This might involve researching furniture, fabrics and finishes; working out specifications for products like kitchen appliances; and putting together mood boards or inspiration images to help you visualise the final space. They might create detailed plans, drawings or models at this stage to give you a real-life feel. This is the first step that will bring your design intentions to life!

Delivery of your Interior Design Project

Delivery is the fourth and final stage of the design process. This is the pinnacle of the design process - as you will have now seen the concept go from a conversation and imagination all the way through to execution.

All consultations are no-obligation - so if the above interior design process sounds like it could benefit your space get in touch today!
